While everyone else is taking duck-face selfies, you’re that person taking pictures of ducks. Like, actual ducks. You tote your camera with you on hikes and nature walks. You get up before the rest of the world even knows which way “up” is to capture the perfect photo of an egret feeding frenzy. You conduct swamp stake-outs to snap pictures of a gator. Snap, snap, snap. You love snapping pictures like snapping turtles love snapping.
Here’s your chance, my snapping friends! Showcase your wildlife pièce de résistance in our Wildlife Photo Contest. What is acceptable? Glad you asked. The keyword would be wild. And not wild as in crazy or spastic; otherwise, everyone and their brother would be submitting photos of their siblings and their neighbor’s Chihuahua.
Think along the lines of what we mentioned above. Ducks, egrets, basically any waterfowl, really. Also, reptiles and amphibians of the non-caged variety. Come across a water moccasin? Great. Get a picture, and then get the heck out of there! Turtles, frogs, toads, gators, lizards – all fantastic. Any kind of non-caged rodent – wonderful. Squirrels, chipmunks, rats, mice, bats . . . well, you get the idea. (And for any wise guys out there, Pokémon do NOT count as wildlife.)
Put your best shot on Facebook and/or Instagram by September 15th, and the one with the most likes wins! (The contest itself ends on the 15th, so we would advise getting your picture on social media in plenty of time to start accumulating likes.) Make sure to use #WildlifePhotoContest so we can find your photo!
As always, there will be prizes!
